I often think to myself that if the flow is headed in one direction, I should quickly turn around and run in the opposite. Sometimes I want to run as fast as I can, not caring, not stopping for anyone until I’m far enough away to finally look over my shoulders and reassure myself that it is safe to slow down. Sometimes, no — always, I am ready to run. Ready to break out in a frenzy to save myself from the inevitable and impending doom. Sometimes the only pain I want to ever feel is the exhaustion of my legs, the sharp sting in my heels and the soreness of my soles. I’m ready to run. But other times, I grow a little thing called courage and manage to convince myself to stay. I’ve been running all my life, after all. Why not enjoy the scenery?
